Publicity Secretary DAP Bintulu Chiew Chan Yew is urging immediate action to resolve a long-standing issue concerning a large reptile inhabiting the Kemena River in Bintulu. This problem has plagued the community for several years, with mounting fears of a potential threat to human safety.
The presence of this sizable reptile has become a cause for great concern among the local population, who remain on edge due to the uncertainty surrounding the possibility of it posing a danger to humans. What exacerbates this situation is Bintulu's coastal location, which means that the potential impact extends far beyond a small area, and it encompasses the entire shoreline.
Adding to the urgency is the ongoing construction of the Jepak Bridge in the area and activities in the river. And as human activity in the area and by the river in town area, it becomes imperative that the authorities act swiftly to ensure public safety.
Pictures on social media have indicated that the big reptile was spotted basking in the morning sun at Tanjung Batu Beach, further intensifying the apprehension of both residents and tourists alike. This issue has persisted over time, with repeated appeals from the public, and it was even brought to the attention of the Sarawak State Assembly many years ago.
Based on pictures and videos, the big reptile is believed to be about 4 feet long, amplifying concerns about its potential threat.
The citizens implore the Sarawak Rivers Board to prioritize this matter and take swift action to address the presence of the big reptile in Kemena River, Bintulu.
